My Story

I’m just a planner in an unplannable world.

Had the great fortune to work in supply chain planning for nearly 27 years at a Fortune 50 company.

Worked hard, learned a ton. Was privileged to manage people for most of my career.

Connected with fantastic people, including three of the best friends I’ve made in my life.

Along the way I got to go to Ireland, Israel, China, Malaysia, Philippines, Germany, Costa Rica.

Positives = rewarding challenges, great benefits, worked with the smartest people on Earth.

Negatives = relentless pace, crushing (at times) stress, much time away from family

In late 2010, I had the good fortune of earning a new role at work that came with more responsibility and a non-trivial increase in compensation.  This became the catalyst for putting a life plan together and a crazy goal to retire by age 50.

Achieved goal of retirement at fifty. Having to work completely from home during the pandemic made the choice easier.

I love to write and learn. Starting a blog about planning for life and career, working successfully and transitioning to healthy retirement seemed to be a great way to write and learn. So here we go!

Retirement has been rewarding in many of the ways my career was not.,,

I spend much more quality time with my wife and our three teenage children.

I spend more time with my parents, wife’s parents, family and friends.

I practice focus and mindfulness in daily life.

I plant flowers and veggies, tend them too.

I read for hours at a time.

I take long walks.

I listen to music.

I do nothing much at all — some days 😉

I believe that money is only a resource to help us lead the life we want to live.

I believe no amount of money is worth the cost of our mental and physical well-being.

I believe we all can benefit from having a plan for how we want live life.

I believe people can be successful without sacrificing kindness and compassion.

I believe that the human connections we make are the only mark we leave on this world.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it 😉
